2010.04.09   Jan Matejko’s Battle of Grunwald in 3D

Platige Image will produce a 3D interpretation of Battle of Grunwald the famous painting by Jan Matejko. The production of the concept by Tomek Baginski will be managed by Rafał Kidziński.

„The first feeling you have when looking at the painting is a cloud of chaos. And then, when you start gaining knowledge about it, the chaos is ordered. There is space within it: there is a sword more to the foreground, a person in the background, and it all falls into its logical place”  says Tomek Bagiński.

Thanks to 3D stereoscopic imaging the audience will be able to enter the unique world of the battle that changed the face of Europe 600 years ago.

“We will split the digitally-fixed painting of Matejko’s canvas into layers. Each of them will be precisely turned into a 3D model. Thanks to this an impression of a realistic depth will be created and the people fixed onto the painting will be seen from a different perspective than they have been viewed from so far”, adds Rafał Kidziński.

The trailer of the project will be presented on May 15 during the Night of the Museums in the National Museum in Warsaw.

The full reconstruction of the painting will be a part of the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the battle of Grunwald. It will be available for viewing, taking place of the original painting by Matejko, which will at the time be renovated, from July 2010.

A several-minutes long animation, presenting the ten most important people on Battle of Grunwald painting by means of a voice-over will complement the reconstruction.
