“Face,” Małgorzata Szumowska’s latest feature, competes for the Golden Bear!
The Main Competition of the Berlin International Film Festival will include “Face,” the latest feature by the widely acclaimed Małgorzata Szumowska. Set to premiere at the Festival, the film was co-produced by Platige Films (a subsidiary of the Platige Image capital group), which also handled the necessary visual effects work.

“Face” is a contemporary fable about a man who loses his face in a car accident. After undergoing a novel surgical procedure, he returns to his hometown. Once there, however, he feels detached and alone as the people around him have no idea how to deal with someone like him.

Platige Films, a subsidiary of the Platige Image capital group, has co-produced the movie and handled the necessary visual effects work. Michał Englert and Jacek Drosio, both of them Szumowska’s long-time collaborators, were responsible for photography and editing, respectively. Marek Zawierucha (“Hatred,” “In the Name Of,” “Rose”) handled set design, Waldemar Pokromski (“Maria Skłodowska-Curie,” “Wałęsa. Man of Hope,” “Katyń”) was responsible for makeup and hairstyling, while the costumes were designed by Katarzyna Lewińska (“Body/Ciało,” “The Lure,” “Disco Polo”) and Julia Jarża (“Body/Ciało,” “In the Name Of,” “33 Scenes from Life”). The film will also feature music from Metallica.

Aside from Małgorzata Szumowska’s previous efforts, the Main Competition of the Berlin International Film Festival has in the past featured a number of Polish movies, including the Alfred Bauer Award-winning “Spoor” directed by Agnieszka Holland, Tomasz Wasilewski’s “United States of Love,” recipient of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay, and Andrzej Wajda’s “Sweet Rush.”

The Polish premiere of the movie is slated for April 6, 2018.
